CHAPTER 7 :ISSUES OF CONCERN
DEFINITION OF ENVIRONMENTAL
Environment are all living and non-living things that occur naturally in the earth's surface, or part thereof. Environmental covering several key components, namely:
(I) Unit landscapes function as natural systems without human involvement, including plants, animals, rocks, etc., as well as natural phenomena that occur.
(II) the global natural resources and physical phenomena that do not have certain restrictions, such as air, water, and climate, as well as energy, radiation, electric charge, and magnetism, which does not exist as a result of human activity.
IMPORTANCE OF THE ENVIRONMENT
Environment plays an important role in our daily life. Uncontaminated environment gives us a comfortable and cozy atmosphere. In addition to providing comfort to the people, the activities of some of the country's development will affect the environment in our country if not properly cared for. Among the environmental concerns are:
(i) human health guaranteed
(ii) attraction of foreign tourists
(iii) Provide fresh air
(iv) stabilizing ecosystems
(v) To protect wildlife habitat on land and water
(vi) To avoid extinction
SOURCES OF ENVIRONMENTAL DESTRUCTION
Environmental damage caused by the various parties. Industrial sector and the agricultural sector which is the most important sector in our country has also contributed to the destruction of the environment. In addition, other sources include:
(i) The use of chemical fertilizers and excessive
(ii) the felling of trees rampant
(iii) open burning
(iv) The release of gases such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur oxides, hydrocarbons and others.
(v) Removal of toxic waste
EFFECT OF ENVIRONMENTAL DESTRUCTION
Environment which is undergoing degradation has led many harm to humans and wildlife, fauna regardless or in water.
The effect is as follows:
(i) Air pollution and haze
(ii) The phenomenon of acid rain
(iii) odor pollution
(iv) Water pollution
(v) The destruction of aquatic life
(vi) increase the ambient temperature / localized heating
(vii) Poisoning
(viii) Soil erosion and flooding
(ix) Health affected
MEASURES
Increasingly sophisticated technology has produced a product causes more pollution. Indirectly, environmental victims; good in the air, sea or land. Measures should be taken to clear the environment from pollution. These measures are divided into four levels, namely:
(i) International Level
(ii) The Government
(iii) Organization
(iv) Individuals.
• At the international level, organizations such as the WHO (World Health Organization) and Greenpeace was founded. The organization acts as the custodian of pollution. WHO plays a vital role in controlling pollution and protecting the right to set the rules on the environment. Greenpeace also provide information to the public about the contamination that occurred in the world and demonstrate the event sesuatau pollution.
• The second step of the government, such as the Government of Malaysia, has held a variety of laws and measures to improve the quality of the environment. Laws like those who throw litter will be fined and required to clean the area supervised by the officers. Industries or chemical dumping indiscriminately would be sued.
• The third step, organizations such as schools, local communities, youth clubs and companies can contribute to a clean environment. School teachers should inculcate a caring attitude to the environment to the students through moral education in schools and to hold a competition between classes for the cleanest classroom so that students have the nature of environmental responsibility. Local communities can also hosted a competition between the lanes, restaurants and cleanest neighborhoods. Youth clubs can provide assembly to collect newspapers from house to house and collect garbage on the beach while play. The company should have a sense of responsibility in the garbage disposal.
• Step four, are we as individuals play their own role. Three attitudes that should be adopted is the use of goods that can be reused (reuse), using goods made from these items reprocessed (recycled) and reduce the consumption of goods that are not needed (reduce). Such attitudes can reduce pollution in the environment. Not to forget, the attitude of self-awareness must be there in order to avoid further world untainted.
